Farrah Fawcett’s Rep Issues Statement On Actress’s Condition

Craig Nevius, the producer of “A Wing and a Prayer,” the documentary of Fawcett’s three-year fight against cancer, issued a statement to Access Hollywood and select other media outlets early on Monday morning regarding the hospitalized condition of Farrah Fawcett. The 62-year-old star has reportedly been receiving care in Los Angeles since Thursday.

“On Farrah Fawcett’s behalf, I can confirm that she recently checked into a Los Angeles hospital. And although it is usually against her nature to correct false or exaggerated stories that originate in tabloid style reports by offering true information that those ‘journalists’ would not otherwise have to publish,” Nevius’ statement read.

“Farrah is allowing this statement out of appreciation for her fans, who have offered their constant support throughout her fight, as well as out of concern for the countless of other cancer patients who have written to her to say that they are following her story in the hope that there is hope. Tonight, Farrah has hope and she hopes that others will continue to hold onto theirs. In spite of what they read.”

Dr. Lawrence Piro, MD, Fawcett’s physician who regularly consults with her German doctors, also issued a statement to Access on Monday.

“There have been some photographs that have been widely published of Farrah Fawcett in a wheelchair. The reason she was in that wheelchair is because she had a small procedure while in Germany and left for the airport soon after. She could have stayed in Germany to recuperate for a day or two but she was really very anxious to come home. So she took a nine hour flight right after that procedure,” Dr. Piro said.

“It turned out that the procedure caused a small amount of bleeding in one of the muscles of her abdomen, making a hematoma which was quite painful. Actually, it was painful for her to walk which is why she was in that wheelchair. And that pain was coming from the hematoma which had nothing directly to do with the cancer. She’s able to walk. And she remains in good spirits with her usual sense of humor. She’s been in great shape her whole life and has an incredible resolve and an incredible resilience.”

Farrah has been battling on and off with cancer since her diagnosis in September 2006.

Following chemotherapy and radiation, she was diagnosed as cancer free, only to find out in spring 2007 that the cancer had returned.

In February, Nevius told Access Hollywood that the star was doing very well since receiving an advanced treatment in Germany.

And on Friday, Access reported that “Wing,” which follows Farrah’s courageous fight against the disease, will air on NBC. A date has not been set.

“NBC is as courageous as Farrah for airing the subject matter that she is filming in prime time,” Nevius previously said in a statement released to Access. “Ultimately, the film will do what Farrah has always done so well: get people’s attention and get them talking,” he added. “And those are always the first steps toward effecting social change of any kind.”
