Fergie On Her Rock Influences & ‘Naughty’ Youth

Fergie may sing as part of hip-hop super group the Black Eyed Peas – as well as being a solo pop star in her own right – but she says one side of her that people haven’t seen is her rock ‘n’ roll fandom.

“Rock ‘n’ roll has been huge in my life, but I’ve never really expressed it as much,” she told the May 2010 issue of ELLE. “I listened to Zeppelin, I was a huge fan of Guns N’ Roses… It’s all there, it’s all true to me. It’s eclectic, and that’s who I am.”

Her rock taste dovetailed with what she described as her “naughty” teen years.

“When I was younger, I used to be the cheater. I’m not talking about going all the way—I wasn’t doing that in high school!” Fergie said. “But I’d have boyfriends, and then spring break would come around and I’d be a little bit naughty.”

On her solo album, “The Duchess,” Fergie sang about being “Glamorous” – but she told the mag there are times she doesn’t feel that way.

“It has hurt me in the past when people say things like how ‘fugly’ I am or how horrible I look. I’ve had to learn not to give it such a high priority in life,” she said. “Look, when you’re trying to juggle all of this in your life, sometimes you’re not going to look perfect. I don’t have time to get a facial every couple of days.”

However, one thing she does have time for is her relationship with husband Josh Duhamel, which she told the mag has only grown with time.

“You grow a deeper love for each other, besides the initial lust and falling in love and all of that,” she said. “You come to know each other a lot better, you grow together, and it makes you love each other that much deeper.”
