‘Fifty Shades’ Dakota Johnson: Anastasia Is ‘Kinda Boring’ Pre-Christian

Anastasia Steele may be one of the raciest big screen characters of 2015, but Dakota Johnson – who will play the unassuming college student in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie – says Ana’s a bit of a snoozefest prior to her fateful meeting with Christian Grey.

“[I’m doing] a lot of getting into Ana’s headspace before she meets Christian,” Dakota, 24, said during a photo shoot for Vanity Fair’s March 2014 issue Vanities opener, when asked how she’s been preparing for the role. “So it’s a lot of reading, which I love.”

Despite Dakota’s literary love, she found Ana’s pre-Christian days to be dull – perhaps due to her collegiate choices.

“She’s an English major, so that’s kinda boring,” Dakota – who appears on the Vanities cover in a (what else?) gray strapless dress – said.

As for how “Fifty Shades” filming has been going so far, Dakota said it’s been “very smooth” and “fun,” and better than she expected.

“I think going into something like this you kind of have all these different fears about what it could be like, and none of those things are happening,” she told the mag. “We all get along really well, the crew’s amazing. We’re just all trying to make this project the best it can be.”

“Fifty Shades of Grey,” which also stars Jamie Dornan, Rita Ora, Max Martini and Marcia Gay Harden, hits theaters on February 13, 2015.
