Floyd Mayweather Gets KO’d From ‘Dancing’

He may have golden gloves, but Floyd Mayweather doesn’t quite have twinkle toes.

The boxer was knocked out of “Dancing with the Stars” Tuesday night along with partner Karina Smirnoff.

“We saw it coming a mile away,” Mayweather told Access Hollywood. “I just understood.”

Mayweather said one of the reasons he knew Tuesday was their final “Dancing” day was because they were put in the same spot last week’s booted contestant, Wayne Newton, occupied.

“If you notice on the stage, [we were in] the same spot Wayne was standing in, the same spot the model [Josie Maran] was standing in,” he told Access. “Even at practice when you stand in that same spot they call you down. Once they called us to that spot I said ‘Yeah, it’s us.”

Mayweather said one of the reasons he lasted so long in the competition was down to his followers.

“My fan base of course is crazy,” he said. “I have a big following. Both [of my recent] fights did eight figure gates. My fight with Oscar de la Hoya sold out in two hours. . . . So of course I’m an icon in the sport of boxing.”

In addition to a December 8, HBO pay per view fight with junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatto, Mayweather told Access, his post “Dancing” plans include helping out Smirnoff.

“Out of all the partners that Karina had I just want to help Karina get her own school – The Karina Dance Studio, The Smirnoff Dance Studio,” he said.

Mayweather may have received the lowest number of votes, but many fans of the show had mogul Mark Cuban pegged for a departure this week. After a rough couple of weeks, the basketball team owner didn’t even make the bottom two on Tuesday night. So why is Cuban still in the competition? Certainly not due to his bank balance.

“Buying votes? I wouldn’t know how to,” he said.

So who is voting for Cuban?

“I guess people who appreciate hard work,” he said. “Sports fans I think are surprised at what they see from us. I think everyone from the Midwest, Dallas, Indiana, Chicago, Pittsburg, places I’ve been and grown up [in]. . . . I’m a guy who started with nothing and just worked his butt off to try to get to something and reached a point where it’s just unbelievable.”
