Foo Fighters Rickroll Westboro Baptist Church Protesters (Watch)

If there’s an award for Most Awesome Trolling Response Ever, it should be immediately awarded to Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters.

The band’s Kansas City concert was targeted by hate group Westboro Baptist Church on Friday night and the Foo Fighters took on the group in the best way possible: by Rickrolling protesters.

(What is a Rickroll, you ask? Short answer: when Rick Astley’s 1987 hit, “Never Gonna Give You Up,” is played when you’d least expect it.)

Dave and the band arrived at the Sprint Center on Friday night in the back of a pickup truck, clapping and blasting “Never Gonna Give You Up” next to protesters – who were holding signs which read slogans like “No special laws 4 f*gs” and “God hates proud sinners.”

The Foo Fighters held up signs of their own, which read, “You got Rick Roll’d again,” and “Keep It Clean,” as fans cheered.

Westboro also targeted a Foo Fighters’ Kansas City concert back in 2011.

The band responded at the time by disguising themselves as a heavily bearded country group, and performed a song for the protesters from the back of a flatbed truck. Lyrics included, “I think I’m in the mood for some hot man muffins.”

Rickrolling first took off in 2007 as an online prank, when users began hyperlinking to Rick Astley’s music video in lieu of relevant content.

The prank soon moved offline and into real life. During the 2008 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, Rick himself appeared in the middle of a performance and Rickrolled the crowd.
