Former ‘Golden Girl’ Rue McLanahan Recovering After Suffering ‘Minor’ Stroke

Former “Golden Girls” star Rue McClanahan is doing “incredibly well” after suffering a “minor” stroke, a rep for the actress told Access Hollywood on Thursday.

After undergoing triple bypass surgery in November, McClanahan, 75, recently suffered the stroke while recovering at the hospital.

“She suffered a minor stroke. She’s not paralyzed as it says in the [tabloids]. She’s walking just fine. Everything came back. She’s working on her speech,” the rep told Access. “She’s doing incredibly well.”

Beloved for her role as the fiery Blanche Devereaux on “Golden Girls,” some of McClanahan’s recent TV credits include a role on “Law & Order” in 2008 and lending her voice to the animated series “King of the Hill” in 2006.

“If you’re going to suffer a stroke, what better place for her to be than already at the hospital?” the rep added.

McLanahan’s “Golden Girls” co-star, Bea Arthur, passed away in April 2009. She was 86. Estelle Getty, who played Arthur’s mother on the show, died in July 2008 at age 84.
