FOX is getting into business with big screen sci-fi director M. Night Shyamalan.
On Tuesday, the broadcasting company announced it had inked a development deal with the director for a new long-form event series – “Wayward Pines.”
The project is based on “Pines,” a novel from author Blake Crouch.
FOX described the upcoming project as “an intense, mind-bending thriller,” and likened it to “Twin Peaks.”
The project would focus on Ethan Burke, a Secret Service agent who lands in Wayward Pines, Idaho, seeking to find two missing federal agents. The journey becomes more complex leading Ethan to realize he might never get out of the town alive.
FOX also announced on Tuesday it is working to bring viewers “Blood Brothers,” from Bruce C. McKenna, who wrote HBO’s “The Pacific” and “Band of Brothers.”
The project – based on a true story – focuses on the West Point class of 1861, and the bonds of the soldiers torn apart as the Civil War broke out.
“With top-notch auspices and feature-quality production plans, ‘Wayward Pines’ and ‘Blood Brothers’ represent exactly the kind of high-impact, 10 to 12-part events we set out to develop when we entered the limited series business,” Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, said in a statement on Tuesday. “These two series are the first of many big ideas, big names and big talent that you can anticipate will be on our air in the next 12-24 months.
