Friends, Colleagues React To Peter Boyle’s Death

Friends and former co-stars of actor Peter Boyle react to the news of his death at the age of 71.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Peter Boyle. When I came out to L.A. to do ‘Everybody Loves Raymond,’ I knew no one. Peter immediately took me under his wing and became my friend and mentor. He gave me great advice, he always made me laugh, and the way he connected with everyone around him amazed me. The fact that he could play a convincing curmudgeon on the show, but in reality be such a compassionate and thoughtful person, is a true testament to his talent. My family and I, and everyone involved with ‘Raymond,’ send our thoughts, prayers, and love to his wife Lorraine, and their children, Lucy and Amy. I feel very lucky to have known and shared great experiences with Peter, and I will miss him forever.” ? Ray Romano

“After working closely with someone for so many years they become family, and Peter was family. Peter was an incredible man who made all of us who had the privilege of working with him aspire to be better actors. His family can take comfort in knowing that he was loved by everyone that knew him and loved by his many fans who cherished his talent. I will miss him.” ? Patricia Heaton

“I was home and I got the call from Ray [Romano]. We knew Peter was ill for awhile, but you’re never ready for it. My heart goes out to his daughters and his wife and his family. It’s a sad day. But I knew Peter well enough to know he wouldn’t want to spend much time on the downside. He lived life with such a gusto. To the end, he was Peter, he was strong, he was a fighter. He was a brilliant actor, but we was also a brilliant human.” ? Brad Garrett

“One of his favorite expressions was ‘holy crap.’ Well, holy crap I’m going to miss my buddy. The thing people don’t know about Peter was how bright he was, how really intelligent and how well-read he was and how gentle he was ? totally unlike Frank Barone. He was a wonderful, brilliant actor. A wonderfully sensitive human being, a caring man so unlike the characters that he’s played that people believe he was like that. He’s not at all like that. I’ll miss that man. I’ll miss his humor? He’s family to me. I really will miss him.” ? Doris Roberts

“I was greatly saddened by the news. I will always cherish Peter Boyle’s remarkable performance as the monster in ‘Young Frankenstein.’” ? Mel Brooks
