FROM THE NEWS DESK: Show Me The DNA!

SHOW ME THE DNA: Larry Birkhead’s attorney Debra Opri asked an L.A. judge this morning to require Howard K. Stern to give up some of his DNA and settle the Matter of Dannielynn’s Daddy once and for all. The judge wouldn’t go for it. But he’ll think about it until March 27th, when there will be another hearing. Meanwhile Opri tells us she thinks Dannielynn will be back in California in a month and they refuse to use her as a bargaining tool. Larry will be in the Bahamas on Friday for a custody hearing.

THE BABY’S ROOM: Piece by piece a nursery is being put together at Larry Birkhead’s Los Angeles home while he anticipates Dannielynn’s arrival from the Bahamas. He told Tony Potts today he has bought clothes, toys, a crib, baby furniture and even a Diaper Genie. He has bought diapers in all sizes so he doesn’t have to go out shopping again for them anytime soon. Larry says that people have started recognizing him and giving him words of support and advice.

LET’S PUT ON A SHOW: Movie exhibitors are mingling with the Stars in Las Vegas for the annual ShoWest con-fab starting tomorrow. Among the stars we are talking to: Jennifer Lopez (El Cantante), Marc Anthony (El Cantante), John Travolta (Hairspray), Queen Latifah (Hairspray), Christopher Walken & Allison Janney (Hairspray) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Hairspray). Where has Michelle Pfeiffer been? Didn’t she used to be big? I guess she got past Hollywood’s Legal Age Limit for actresses. That can be anywhere from 28 to 40, depending. But that’s another story. ShoWest is all about the business of show business. Among the items they’d like to talk about, according to today’s Hollywood Reporter, are illegal camcording, the length of theatrical windows (how long a movie stays in a theater) and “using plasma screens and digital posters to tempt moviegoers into theatres.” Try framing one of those. Meanwhile, here’s a question: in what industry (other than the movies) does every product have the same price? That’s something we would like them to talk about.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING: Regis Philbin is set to go under the knife in New York for a bypass tomorrow and that’s good timing for the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Seems that they have a program called Live… from the Heart and tomorrow they are giving local students the chance to see inside an operating room during an open heart bypass surgery and to “interact with the surgical team and ask questions about the procedure….. get tips on keeping their heart healthy and even find out about careers in the OR.” I don’t know about you but if someone is doing bypass surgery on me I want them interacting with ME! and not some kid who skipped woodshop class to see them cut a guy open.
