Gabourey Sidibe’s Mom Advances To Semi-Final Rounds On ‘America’s Got Talent’

Alice Tan Ridley, the mother of Academy Award nominee for “Precious” Gabourey Sidibe, advanced to the semi-final round of “America’s Got Talent” on Wednesday night.

Alice, a singer, who has spent years entertaining passersby in the subways of New York City, has not only impressed the judges of the show, but also the viewers of the hit NBC reality program, who voted en masse for her after she performed the Gladys Knight & The Pips classic, “Midnight Train To Georgia” on Tuesday’s episode.

In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Gabourey said she couldn’t be more thrilled that America is embracing her mother.

“I’m really, really proud and really happy for her,” the actress said. “She’s always been a singer and so it’s a different way of seeing her.”

Gabourey added that seeing her mother go from strength to strength on the show has been impressive.

“It’s weird that she’s kind of blooming and blossoming a bit, but like, that’s just my mom and that’s what she’s always been doing and so she just has a wider audience now,” Gabourey said.

Also advancing on Wednesday night were singer/musician Michael Grimm, dance troupe AscenDance and illusionist Antonio Restivo.
