‘Game Of Thrones’ Author George R.R. Martin’s Old School Style

“Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin revealed he turns to a technology considered obsolete by some when working on his “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.

“I use Word Star 4.0 as my word processing system,” George told Conan O’Brien on Tuesday’s “Conan,” revealing he types on a DOS machine not connected to the Internet.

Word Star was first released in 1978, with the last version of the program reportedly released in 1992. By comparison, series star Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, was born in 1997.

Addressing his love for the old program, George said it fits perfectly with how he wants to write.

“It does everything I want a word processing program to do and it doesn’t do anything else,” he said. “I don’t want any help. … I hate some of these modern systems where you type a lower case letter and it becomes a capital. I don’t want a capital. If I’d wanted a capital, I would have typed the capital. I know how to work the shift key. Stop fixing it!”

And the man who uses “Ser” instead of “Sir,” also lamented another common computer feature.

“I hate spell check,” he added.
