‘Game Of Thrones’ Bosses Rave Over Newcomer Pedro Pasca

Oberyn Martell is an exciting new character, who will make his debut in “Game of Thrones” Season 4, and Executive Producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff were very happy with the man they found for the role – “Graceland” alum Pedro Pascal.

“He really was the find of finds,” D.B. told Access Hollywood at the show’s recent Season 4 premiere in New York City. “He’s an amazing, versatile, powerful actor, and a lovely human being.”

Oberyn, a prince from Dorne (the location Cersei’s daughter, Myrcella, was shipped off to in Season 2), is also known as The Red Viper, and producers were looking forward to bringing him to the HBO show.

“We’ve been excited to cast Oberyn for a long time and nervous about who [we were] gonna get and then he came in,” David said of Pedro. “We accidentally sent him four scenes for his audition. You’re only supposed to really get one and so he had to learn a 10 minute scene, was completely off book for it, memorized the whole thing and once we saw that we knew he was Oberyn.”

Pedro’s character will hit King’s Landing with an agenda.

“If you get on his good side, he promises to be really good to you. He is invited to the royal wedding. He doesn’t waste any time in letting people know what he’s up to,” Pedro told Access at the NYC event. “He has vengeance in his heart. He’s got a taste for blood.”

“Game of Thrones” Season 4 premieres April 6 at 9 PM on HBO.
