Game Of Thrones: Lannister Men Peter Dinklage & Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Talk Season 3

“Game of Thrones” had its Season 3 premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Monday night and Peter Dinklage, who plays one of the most beloved characters in the HBO series – Tyrion Lannister – said not to expect the now ex-Hand of the King to stay down for long.

As fans saw at the end of Season 2, after Tyrion helped win the Battle of Blackwater, his father, Tywin Lannister, was awarded the sole credit for the victory. Additionally, the battle-scarred Tyrion was stripped of his political duties and shoved in meager quarters.

“He’s very wily, Tyrion. So, he’ll figure it out,” Peter told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman at Monday’s premiere, hinting at what’s ahead for his character. “He’ll figure out a way to get more comfortable bedding.”

With Tywin in King’s Landing, fans can expect some sparring between the father and son.

“That’s a very complicated relationship – Tywin and Tyrion — but they do sort of match each other well,” Peter said. “I give [it] to him just as much. We get some big give and take.”

Peter also teased that Tyrion and his older sister, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), could find themselves as allies of sorts in Season 3.

“They’re both put in situations that they don’t want to be, so they find a common ground in terms of, you know, being put in the hole by their dad,” he said.

As for the other Lannister man about – Jaime, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau – expect him to be fairly dirty this season as he travels with Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie).

“I love it,” Nikolaj laughed of getting dirty for filming. “It sounds weird, [but] I really like it. I like being outdoors when shooting… It makes it easy. You just react to [the elements], and the weather in Northern Ireland is severe.”

Nikolaj said Jaime will be focusing on continuing his journey to King’s Landing (he’s under the guard of Brienne, who is attempting to trade him on Catelyn Stark’s behalf for the Stark daughters — Sansa and Arya — of course, Arya isn’t there) in the weeks ahead.

“He wants to get back [to King’s Landing], and he doesn’t like to be in chains,” Nikolaj said. “At this point, he just wants to get rid of [Brienne].”

“Game of Thrones” Season 3 premieres March 31 at 9 PM on HBO.
