Game Of Thrones: Michelle Fairley On Season 3’s New Tully Cast Members

Robb and Catelyn Stark’s family is set to grow in Season 3 of “Game of Thrones,” and Michelle Fairley told AccessHollywood.com she already has a connection to her two new Tully relatives.

“I’ve worked with Tobias [Menzies] before,” she told Access at Comic-Con of the former HBO “Rome” star (he played a young Brutus), who joins “GOT” as Cat’s brother, Edmure Tully, in Season 3. “We did a film together in Croatia a couple of years ago.”

(Michelle also pronounced her new “GOT” brother’s name – with the “mure” ending sounding just like “sure” is pronounced if it had an “m.”)

Cat will also be getting an uncle – Brynden Tully (Robb’s great uncle) — played by Clive Russell (a veteran of “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”).

“I’ve worked with Clive as well and he’s a wonderful guy. We did a film together in Ireland a couple of years ago and he’s fantastic, and I love that character,” Michelle told Access. “He makes Catelyn feel very safe and secure and Clive is just a lovely, gentle man and a wonderful actor, so I feel very safe with him.”

Asked how the new Tullys will fit into the drama, Michelle actually hinted at what might not make it in Season 3 (which premieres March 31, 2013) from the George R.R. Martin books.

“My family, the Tully family, they live in Riverrun and in the books they’re quite different because, there’s a whole sequence — my sister’s up in the Eyrie now — and in the books, my father is dying and I actually go and visit him and, of course, because it’s a television series and you need to keep the energy up, and the audience’s interest, as well, certain little shortcuts are taken,” she told Access. “So, I can’t give anything away, but… the scripts are amazing. They really are, they’re fantastic.”

Catelyn was in a fair bit of trouble at the end of Season 2, under guard after – without her son Robb’s knowledge or approval – she sent Brienne to take Jaime “The Kingslayer” Lannister to King’s Landing, in the hopes of striking a bargain for daughters Sansa and Arya.

And as Season 3 begins, Catelyn will again be in a tough spot, Michelle told Access.

“[She’s] in the same place, really, in the same place with Robb and the camp and as the season progresses, you know, she’s still carrying, whatever she’s carrying inside of her, “ Michelle said. “She knows what she wants and certain events happen that sidetrack her, so she goes on yet more journeys.”
