Game Of Thrones Taps Another Rome Actor For Season 3 (As Mance Rayder)

“Game of Thrones” has found its Mance Rayder – and it’s a former star of HBO’s “Rome.”

The leader of the Wildlings, and turncoat Night’s Watch member, will be played by Ciaran Hinds.

Cat Taylor, the go-to gal for executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, confirmed the news on Twitter on Friday.

“That’s right people – we have a Mance Rayder – Welcome to the GOT family Ciaran Hinds,” she Tweeted.

Ciaran, who played Julius Caesar in HBO’s “Rome,” is currently starring opposite Sigourney Weaver in USA’s “Political Animals.”

For those who haven’t read the books from author George R.R. Martin, Mance is the leader Rose Leslie’s Ygritte, and her band of Wildlings are set to bring Jon Snow (Kit Harington) to in Season 3.

The character was referred to by various parties in the Night’s Watch and the Wildlings in Season 2.

While Ciaran is actually from Belfast, where the show is based, it is expected he’ll film his scenes in the icy landscape of Iceland.

Ciaran isn’t the only former “Rome” star headed to “GOT” Season 3. The man who finally did Ciaran’s Julius Caesar in, in “Rome” – Tobias Menzies as Brutus – is playing Catelyn Stark’s (Michelle Fairley) little brother, Edmure.
