George Clooney & Elisabetta Canalis Call It Quits After Two-Year Relationship

George Clooney is back on the market — the actor has split from his girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis, after nearly two years of dating.

“We are not together anymore,” the former couple said in a joint statement released to Access Hollywood on Wednesday. “It’s very difficult and very personal, and we hope everyone can respect our privacy.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, George, 50, and Elisabetta, 32, began dating in September 2009.

While the cause of the breakup is unknown, Elisabetta recently declared she “will be married someday,” despite her now-ex-boyfriend’s infamous anti-marriage stance.

“I am a firm believer in marriage — in the future I will be married,” the beauty told Italy’s Chi magazine in an interview published earlier this month. “But for the time being, I am happy as I am.”

Meanwhile, George has remained steadfast in his commitment to remain single

“I hate to blow your whole news story, but I was married,” the actor/philanthropist said in an interview on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” in January, when asked by his father Nick (who appeared alongside the actor) about considering marriage. “Yeah, so I’ve proven how good I was at it, and I just. … I’m allowed one.”

George was married to actress Talia Balsam – currently known for her role as Mona Sterling on AMC’s “Mad Men” — from 1989 to 1993, but the union ended in divorce.
