Gerard Butler: Playing For Keeps Is ‘Not A Typical Romantic Comedy’

Gerard Butler is starring in the comedy “Playing for Keeps,” and the actor says the film’s roster of beautiful actresses definitely influenced his decision to sign on.

“To do a movie with the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Uma Thurman and Jessica Biel was amazing,” Gerard told Access Hollywood at the film’s premiere in New York City on Wednesday. “And I loved the script, it’s really heartwarming and poignant and silly.”

But just because the movie – which also stars Dennis Quaid and Judy Greer — is “heartwarming,” doesn’t mean it’s your run-of-the-mill chick flick, according to Gerard (who plays a father trying to reconnect with his young son in the film).

“It’s not a typical romantic comedy because it’s very relatable, very human,” he said. “And yet at the same time, what my character’s going through is kind of crazy. He’s trying to re-adjust to having a son and establishing that bond.

“Meanwhile, he’s being chased around by married woman and single mothers,” he continued. “So, it’s kind of got it all going on at the same time [and] it’s really moving because I’m this boy’s hero. And I’m always letting him down and I’m always letting down my ex-wife.”

Gerard’s gorgeous co-star Jessica Biel agreed, telling Access, “We both put a lot time and our hearts and our energy into this project.”

“Playing for Keeps” hits theaters on Friday.
