Ginnifer Goodwin: Fans Will Love Ariel’s Once Upon A Time Introduction

Ginnifer Goodwin revealed that this Sunday’s “Once Upon a Time” episode, titled “Ariel” (as in The Little Mermaid), was one of her favorites to film. But initially, she wanted no part of it.

“I really desperately did not want to be part of the Ariel storyline because I figured it would involve getting wet. And it did,” Ginnifer laughed with reporters during a recent set visit in Vancouver, which AccessHollywood.com attended courtesy of ABC. “But it ended up being one of my favorite episodes I’ve filmed, truly.”

Meeting the flame haired mermaid has been something “Once” fans have been wanted since the very first season.

It’s actress JoAnna Garcia Swisher who plays Ariel in the episode, and Ginnifer thinks it will come as a delight to the show’s fairytale lovers.

“I think that the Ariel introduction is going to make all of our fans and all the Disney fans supremely happy because she’s everything you want Ariel to be and the actress who plays her brings this layer of emotional intelligence to it that I didn’t really foresee that I found super impressive and meshes really well with all of the rest of our characters in our world,” Ginnifer, who plays Snow White, said.

Ginnifer also explained how the two legendary characters come face to face.

“Snow and Ariel come together because of a near fatal experience in which Ariel saves Snow, and so Snow is going try to repay the favor by helping Ariel find the love of her life. And so that’s how that comes about,” she said.

Asked by one reporter if Ariel could end up in Neverland, Ginnifer had little to say.

“I have been banned from talking about what ways we see Ariel other than my flashback relationship with her,” she laughed.

But, as AccessHollywood.com learned when we spoke with JoAnna by phone earlier this week, Ariel will not appear just the one time. She returns in a future episode.

“I do stick around for a minute. In fact, I just got back from Canada, so that’s probably all I should say,” JoAnna laughed. “It’s been really fun and it’s been a great experience.”

“Once Upon a Time” airs Sunday night at 8/7c on ABC.
