Girl Meets World: Danielle Fishel Talks Reuniting With Ben Savage & Their ‘Special Bond’

Former “Boy Meets World” co-stars Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage recently reunited to film the “Girl Meets World” pilot after a 13–year break and Danielle says it was instantly like old times between the pair.

“Reuniting with Ben has been even better than I could’ve possibly imagine it was going to be,” Danielle – who plays Topanga Lawrence Matthews – told the audience via video message at the 2nd annual ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas on Friday, via Yahoo!TV. “The minute we walked into rehearsal, Ben was Cory[Matthews] and I was Topanga, and we were together and it was like no time had passed.”

Danielle, who is engaged to longtime love Tim Belusko off-screen, said she and Ben have a strangely strong bond – a connection that resembles that of a married couple.

“There is something so special about the bond we share,” she said. “I always tell people — it seems a little weird — but it does feel like [Ben] is my husband. He will always be my first husband.”

Ben, who appeared at the Festival in person (along with original “Boy Meets World” stars Rider Strong, Matthew Lawrence, Maitland Ward, series creator Michael Jacobs and more), recalled filming the popular show’s emotional final scene.

“It was almost like saying goodbye to our childhood,” Ben told the audience. “It’s hard for me to even watch that scene. That was kind of like the end of our childhood. It wasn’t just the end of our show. For us personally, it really meant a lot.”

“We did that last scene in one take because we were all just wrecked,” Rider added. “It was our last scene in front of an audience. It was so close to home that there was no filter between Shawn and Rider at that point. It was the same person freaking out.”

The pilot for “Girl Meets World” – the “BMW” spinoff for The Disney Channel which centers around Cory, Topanga (now married) and their 13-year-old daughter – was filmed in March and is awaiting pickup.
