Girls’ Lena Dunham Is ‘Really’ Private: ‘I Hate Leaving The House’

Lena Dunham is perfectly OK with stripping down as her “Girls” character, Hannah Horvath, but in real life, the star likes to maintain as much privacy as possible.

“I have a really great private existence… which I enjoy, because I can’t overstate how much I hate leaving the house,” she said in a new interview for Vogue’s February issue (she also appears on the iconic mag’s cover) .

The actress currently lives with boyfriend Jack Antonoff (guitarist for fun.), but said prior to meeting the musician on a blind date, she was ready to remain single.

“I’d been like, if I never date again in my whole life, I’ll be fine with it! I want to work and rescue rabbits and be a notable eccentric!” she said. “I had a whole romantic idea about singledom, and then, of course, that’s the moment when you meet someone that you really care about.”

The actress also weighed in on the backlash she received after her character’s Season 2 fling with hot doctor Joshua, played by Patrick Wilson.

“Critics said, ‘That guy wouldn’t date that girl!’ … “It’s like, ‘Have you been out on the street lately?’ Everyone dates everyone, for lots of reasons we can’t understand,” she said. “Sexuality isn’t a perfect puzzle… It’s a complicated thing. I want people ultimately, even if they’re disturbed by certain moments, to feel bolstered and normalized by the sex that’s on the show.”

Additionally, Anna Wintour released a statement regarding Vogue choosing Lena for their cover.

“Lena is a strong, confident woman who charts her own path—and that, to my mind, makes her an inspiring role model and the perfect cover for our February issue. Lena has been acclaimed in so many ways, rightly being described as the voice of her generation,” she said. “But the quality I admire most about her is that she is fearless; fearless in how she works, in her choices, and, of course, about fashion.”

Lena’s issue of Vogue hits newsstands on January 28.
