Giuliana Rancic: Motherhood Is ‘Everything I Had Hoped For & More’

Giuliana Rancic is loving every precious moment of motherhood so far.

The E! News host, who welcomed baby Edward Duke with husband Bill Rancic (via surrogate) in late August, says her new role as a mom is “awesome.”

“I knew it was going to be great, especially because we worked so hard at having a baby and we wanted a baby so bad, but it’s even better than I expected,” Giuliana, 38, told Parade in a new interview. “He’s really opening his eyes now, and when he opens his eyes and stares at you for ten minutes at a time while you’re feeding him, you just realize why there’s that mother-son bond and I say to myself, ‘How am I ever going to say no to this kid?’ He’s got me. It’s everything I had hoped for and more.”

One tough adjustment for Giuliana is the inherent lack of sleep that comes with raising a newborn.

“I think that it keeps you healthy and sane, but I wondered how people function when they have to get up at all hours of the night. But you just do it,” she said. “You function because you enjoy doing it. I think the biggest surprise is probably enjoying those overnight feedings.

Adding, “I love them and look forward to them because I get to spend time with the baby.”

As for how she plans to balance raising baby Edward with her hectic career, Giuliana said she’s “trying to figure that all out.”

“I can see how mothers are conflicted now,” she said. “I definitely emphasize more a working mom than I ever did before, and I understand stay-at-home moms more than I ever did before because there is such a part of you that just wants to stay at home with the baby and raise kids, but you’re conflicted because you love your career. It’s tough and something you have to think about.”
