Giuliana Rancic On The Unexpected Effects Her Cancer Diagnosis Had On Her Friends

Giuliana Rancic is doing well since undergoing a double mastectomy more than three weeks ago, but she admitted her cancer battle, which she chose to make public late last year, has affected some of her relationships.

“Some people, like they don’t know how to act around me and I’ll say ‘Guys!’ And I’ll kind of break the ice like, ‘I’m exactly who I was before I was diagnosed. I’m the exact same person,’” Giuliana told a small group of reporters on Saturday during the E! luncheon at the Television Critics Association Winter Session in Pasadena.

Giuliana is already working again, and she said she’s been feeling fine.

“I’ve never felt sick through this whole thing because I caught it early and I’m very lucky and I’m just fortunate that I caught it early,” she said.

The E! News correspondent and “Fashion Police” star said she felt an obligation to share her breast cancer diagnosis last year out of a need to help others.

“What really made me go public was the fact that I would see my friends, like at work, and I was hiding this big secret and it wasn’t that I was dying to tell them, it was more that I felt like I needed to tell them, like, ‘Go to the doctor. If it can happen to me at 36, with no family history, it could happen to you.’ So, I felt I was keeping this secret that could help people… I just wanted to get it out there just kind of to make young women aware that if it could happen to me it could happen to you.”

“Fashion Police,” airs Friday nights at 10:30/9:30c on E!
