Glam Slam: 6 Travel Must Haves

Time to hit the road! Many people will be traveling for the holiday weekend. I got a jump start – I landed in NYC on Monday night as we take Access Hollywood Live on the road to shoot from Rock Plaza. That’s me with our guest host today, Hoda Kotb.

(Access Hollywood)

Believe it or not, it’s my first time in New York in five-and-a-half years, since the birth of my first child and I’m a little rusty in the packing department. It’s one thing to pack for a vacation — another when work events are involved and you have to look somewhat nice!

Here are the things that made the cut!

LBD

Don’t go anywhere without this multitasker! Dressed up — you can wear a black dress to work, meetings, drinks, restaurants, or in the case of New York… to a Broadway show — it’s all about how your style it. Dressed down — a LBD is the epitome of casual chic.

CHIC JACKET

The right jacket is a wardrobe workhorse. They upgrade everything from dresses to jeans in 10 seconds flat.

ACCESSORIES

Accessories may be supporting players in the fashion game, but they are the most important thing because they can change up your look to match the occasion. A scarf will make your LBD business appropriate. Statement necklaces and a clutch can take your look for day to night. A straw hat and denim jacket make your black dress perfect for a day of sightseeing, hitting the farmers market or shopping. Accessories are easy to pack and don’t take up much room in your suitcase.

STYLISH FLATS

I will do as New Yorkers do and pound the pavement, so no heels for me. Smart ballet flats and summer sandals will do the trick. Wedges are also a good alternative for heels — they give you height and elongate the leg, while still being comfortable.

ADD SOME SPARKLE

I had no idea where I would wear the sheer, black sparkly blouse that I bought on sale at Madewell, but it was marked down twice and only about $30, so I knew it was a must-buy. I’ve ended up wearing that top a few times and it made the cut for this trip. I can throw it on with black pants or white jeans and I’ve got a going out look. Pair with a black jacket and skirt for an even dressier look.

SUNBLOCK

I don’t leave home without sunblock. Ever. I carry some in my purse, I have some in my car, my gym bag, my travel bag. I’m very fair and burn super easy, so sunblock is as important to me as having the right clothes.

Enjoy your holiday weekend and safe travels.
