Glam Slam: Award Worthy Makeup!

While fashion captures most of the attention at the Oscars, I am more of a makeup girl! No matter how glamorous the gown, the right cosmetics can really make or break a look! So I was thrilled to spend the day after the Academy Awards with Chanel celebrity makeup artist, Angela Levin.

Angela was the mastermind behind some of Oscars’ most beautiful faces… Marion Cotillard’s glamorous goth, Nicole Kidman’s classic elegance and Jennifer Aniston’s golden glow! But Angela says all three looks started the same way… with clean, hydrated skin courtesy of Chanel’s Hydramax + Active Moisture Boost Cream. “I feel that when I start makeup with Hydramax then it just lasts longer. It looks transparent, dewy and not greasy.”

Jennifer Aniston
“With Jennifer, the thing that I really love is that beautiful skin, beautiful Mediterranean glowy olive skin that she is so well known for, there is always a golden glow that she has.”

After prepping Jen’s skin with Chanel’s Lift Lumiere Firming and Smoothing Fluid Makeup in Beige, Angela let us in on the unexpected secret behind Jennifer’s rosy cheeks… Chanel’s Hydrabase Coco Red Lipstick! “All I’m using is the lipstick, not even a brush! I patted my fingers in it… and I just applied a little bit creating that kind of rosy cheek… that ‘I just came out of the sun’ look that we so love on Jennifer.”

Next Angela used a soft touch to apply Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzer in a rounding motion and made the most of Jen’s lips with Chanel Aqualumiere Lipshine in Panarea. “It goes on pretty shear and it also keeps your lip really moist.”

“Now to the best finale of every makeup… Inimitable Mascara by Chanel! It just give that touch of beautiful glamour at the end.”

Nicole Kidman
“With Nicole it was elegant, elegant, elegant!”

Nicole Kidman skipped the red carpet, but stunned the Oscar crowd when she emerged on stage in a white feathery L’Wren Scott gown. “Nicole is truly one of those absolutely breathtaking women and I think every time she goes to an event, it almost like brightens up the event with that beauty, elegance and timelessness.”

Angela created a simple but sophisticated look to match Nicole’s style using Chanel’s Quadra Eye Shadow in Reflets d’Ombre. Angela complimented Nic’s eyes with Chanel’s Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Rose and Aqualumiere lip-gloss in Bubble Plum.

Angelina Jolie
While Levin didn’t do Angelina’s makeup on Oscar night, I couldn’t let her go without asking her for tips on how to get Jolie’s signature smokey eye and pale lip!

Angela recommends starting with Chanel’s Quadra Eye Shadow in Dunes… using the pink in the center of the eye, the smokey brown in the crease and corners and the light gold color to highlight underneath the brow. “Always have a clean brush ready, because that is the best blending mate you can have. You just blend the eye shadows… blend them, blend them, blend!”

Next, apply Chanel’s Intense Eye Pencil in Noir. Angela says, “when you use the pencil on your eyes, be very gentle. Don’t press very hard. It allows you to go back and do a little bit more and also moves the product a lot easier.” Finish the eyes with lots of mascara!

With dramatic eyes, you don’t need an overpowering blush, so Angela recommends keeping it simple with a soft wash of color high on the cheekbones. She recommends the same Tweed Rose color she used on Nicole. “It’s very subtle but at the same time it really gives you that little bit of glamour,” she says.

Angelina’s look would not be complete without those amazing lips! But again, less is more. “Even if you have big beautiful lips, it’s nice to sometimes take it very gently.” Just a dab of Chanel’s Rouge Allure in Naive will do just nicely!

And who wouldn’t want a pucker like the one that kisses Pitt?!
