Glam Slam: Bahama Mama

I just got back from a very swank and much needed long weekend of R & R in the Bahamas. It was the first time away from my 14-month-old, so I was a little anxious about going, but, hey! It’s four days in the Bahamas!!!!! We were there for Sandals Emerald Bay Celebrity Golf Tournament in Great Exuma, Bahamas, hosted by Access Hollywood. (Trust me, 99.9% of my job does NOT include getting to hang out in the Caribbean, so this was a very, very welcome weekend!)

Let me start with the island itself. The water is so clear and so blue. The sand on the beach is so fine it feels like flour. Simply beautiful. We spent most of our days lounging on the beach, having long leisurely lunches at the resort’s restaurant on the beach or having lunch, drinks and snacks delivered right to our lounge chairs. All the rooms at Emerald Bay come with your own personal butler, who will take care of any request. They will even climb the palm trees and get you a coconut to enjoy! Yum!

Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos was the host of the weekend event and she kept everyone busy! When ‘The Real Housewives of New York’s’ Kelly Bensimon wasn’t laying out with us on the beach, she and Maria were team leaders for a fierce beach soccer match. Maria also got everyone out on the sand for beach volleyball, including Antonio Sabato Jr., Brittany Snow, ‘90210’s’ Tristan Wilds and ‘The Bachelor’s’ Jason Mesnick. Jason’s wife Molly played referee while enjoying tropical “Sex on the Beach” drinks. (So much for those pregnancy rumors ha!) Maria even hit the water with some local pigs that love to swim – yes swimming pigs! (Tune in to Access Hollywood on Wednesday and Thursday for all the action!)

Maria also kicked off the weekend’s main event- the Celebrity Golf Tournament. Olympic Medalist Julia Mancuso is not only a stud on the slopes; she also did well on the links. She’s rarely played golf, but is obviously a natural athlete… she stunned her team with her hand-eye coordination.

I am such a cheese ball. I asked Julia if I could see her two silver medals she won in Vancouver… pretty cool, they are heavy and I learned they can scratch easily. (Julia’s had them on the road with her.) I like though that she wasn’t jaded at all about them… she was so down to earth and thought they were pretty cool too.

Full disclosure: I skipped all of these very strenuous activities and instead slept late, vegged under an umbrella on the beach and got massively pampered at the spa. And no, I don’t feel one ounce of guilt!

Now, I did attend several very nice parties… a cocktail reception by the pool, a lobster and steak dinner on the beach. There was island entertainment including a fire eating “dragon lady,” a limbo competition and, oh yeah, three nights of very, very good times at “The Drunken Duck Pub.” (So good, a few juicy things happened that will remain in the Bahamas!)

There was lots of dancing and karaoke. (I sang ‘Sweet Home Alabama’, cute little Brittany Snow did a spot on ‘Gangsta’s Paradise.’ Who knew?). Our boss Rob played pool with Jesse Metcalfe. We also met the most fabulous and fun guy ever – Kelly Bensimon’s hairstylist Bradley. He looks like a long-haired rock star and could sing and do all the dance moves to ‘Thriller’ and a perfect Lady Gaga ‘Poker Face’!!!!! He kept us laughing hysterically all weekend and even was nice enough to try to fix my hair, which was a disaster in the humidity!

I ate too much, got too much sun and sang so much I lost my voice – the true sign of a great time! But the best part of the weekend was knowing that part of the proceeds from the event benefit the Sandals Foundation, which helps needy children of the Caribbean including Haiti. So all of that celebrating (and the repercussions of it) was definitely for an excellent cause.
