Glam Slam: Cuff Love

Meet my new baby. This is my brand new Hermes Collier de Chien cuff with black leather and palladium hardware. I have been obsessing over this iconic piece for years. Yes, years. I’ve been searching on eBay for a cheaper used one, but because they are hard so to come by, the pre-owned cuffs are just as expensive as the new ones in stores. Not to mention that there’s a possibility that the ones on auction sites could be fake. I think my husband got tired of hearing me talk about it because he finally suggested that I just go buy one at Hermes. That way, we know it’s authentic and that way it’s DONE!

So, I decided to take the plunge.

There’s a waiting list for the cuff, of course. I got on the list thinking it would be months or maybe even a year before I heard back and that way I could set aside some money for it.

But then, last week, I got “The Call.” A black and silver cuff had come into the store….I was surprised it happened so fast. The lady helping me was surprised too and wasn’t expecting one so soon either, but who’s gonna argue with that!

I went into the Rodeo Drive store, which I have not been in for several years. Despite it being a terrible economy, the store was busy with customers.

I sat on a nice Hermes leather couch and waited as the salesperson brought the cuff. She came out with the signature orange box, which was sealed in plastic.

“Hermetically sealed,” she joked as she took the wrapping off. Don’t you love when you know you are getting something that has never been opened…not even in the store?!

No surprise that the cuff is gorgeous….and classic. Collier de Chien translates to “dog collar” and has been around since the 1940s. An investment for sure, but I will have it for years and it’s something I could see myself wearing when I’m 80 – and isn’t that the very definition of timeless style?
