Glam Slam: Easy Ways To Look A Size Smaller

Since I am 4 and a half months pregnant, there aren’t too many ways for me to “look a size smaller.” Ha ha! But for the rest of you, enjoy these helpful tips and tricks from People StyleWatch to create a slimmer, trimmer figure instantly!

Choose fitted clothing
“This is rule #1 in creating a slimming effect,” says StyleWatch fashion director, Kate Dimmock. “Oversized clothing makes you appear bigger than you are, while superfitted styles can emphasize your trouble spots. Try tailored, body-skimming pieces (like Jennifer Lawrence, pictured) to give the leanest look.”

Go for cool necklines
Try an asymmetrical or a fun collar that brings eyes up to your face. A defined neckline is flattering for almost anyone.

Stick to structured fabrics
A structured fabric like cotton or polyester with no more than 2% spandex will give you the smoothest silhouette— especially on dresses and skirts. Thin fabrics show too much of what you don’t want to reveal! Go for sturdy, well-made items to create a polished look.

Use color to your advantage
Go for color! This is a fun tip that works for everyone. Try a bright shade on the smallest part of your body for eye-catching results. Think of a bright top or blazer to really bring a focus up.

Look for vertical details
Look for garments with vertical lines like stripes, seams or piping. This can really elongate you. Horizontal stripes may be too much for some body types and can create an illusion of looking wider than you actually are.
