Glam Slam: Five Fall Beauty Updates

While parts of the country may be experiencing very hot weather right now, it is officially “Fall.”

Regardless of temperatures, there are a few ways to get in the spirit of the season without undergoing a major beauty overhaul.

“There’s no better time to give your beauty routine a boost,” says People StyleWatch Beauty Director Holly Carter. “Check out these easy ways to revamp your look!”

1) FIND YOUR BEST BLUSH
Blush is bigger than ever. A swift sweep on the apples of your cheeks is a simple way to create a healthy glow. The secret is to pick the right shade for your skin tone – pink is great for fair skin, deep rose works for medium or olive skin tones and plum mixed with bronze or cinnamon is a good option for dark skin. (Gabrielle Union nails it!)

2) MAKE BROWS BOLD
When it comes to arches, thin is not in! A thick yet defined shape is the way to go (like Camilla Belle). If your brows are sparse, pick a pencil that’s a shade lighter than your hair and fill in bare spots with short strokes. If they’re extra thin, try an easy-to-use stencil in a shape that looks like your own. Place it on top of your brow and fill in with brow powder. Lastly, if your brows are on the light side, brush on a tinted brow gel to add temporary color.

3) REVIVE YOUR HAIR COLOR
Make your color rich – no matter what your natural shade may be. For brunettes, warm caramel highlights give hair added dimension. Blondes look great with a golden tone this time of year. Add in lowlights to make hair look thicker and fuller. Redheads can either turn up the drama with a more fiery shade or opt for a rich auburn hue.

4) BREAK OUT OF YOUR HAIR RUT
Switch up your style this season. Go for one of our fave looks. A Sleek Ponytail: Try adding a little volume on top by backcombing and then keep the pony smooth. Bouncy Body: Think soft voluminous strands that have movement. Get the look by using a volumizer on damp hair. Blow-dry hair smooth and then set sections on large hot rollers. Leave them in for about 20 minutes and brush through. Tousled Texture: This look is like bedhead but with a little more polish. Start with smooth (but not pin straight) dry hair. Then try scrunching in a texturizing spray (like Oribe hair care’s Dry Texturizing Spray).

5) FIND YOUR FALL FRAGRANCE
Trade in the citrusy scents of Summer for something warmer and a bit more intense. Look for notes like amber, pink pepper, vanilla, cedar and tuberose. Two great options: Calvin Klein Beauty Eau de Parfum for day and Gucci Guilty Eau de Toilette for night.
