Glam Slam: Hats Off To Summer

A hat is one of those things, like sunglasses or a scarf, that instantly upgrades an outfit, taking it from drab to fab. (Not to mention a savior for bad hair days!)

Hat lovers Rihanna, Reese Witherspoon and Rachel Bilson are all fans of the brand Hat Attack and the company’s founder and “head hat honcho” BJ Gedney breaks down the summer “must have” hat styles are AND how to wear them.

FEDORA:
This is the “go to” street style look of the summer. Stars like Jessica Alba (pictured), Vanessa Hudgens and Reese Witherspoon are always out and about rockin’ a fedora. This style is a great starter hat as it’s the easiest hat to wear — it works well with any shape face or length hair. Fedora’s give a simple outfit an immediate cool edge. Fedoras look great with simple shorts, tee and cross body bag or with a cute floral sundress and flip flops. To get the look of Ashlee Simpson (who was recently spotted in Hat Attack), tilt your fedora down in the front and if you want more of a classic look, tuck your hair behind your ears.

OVERSIZED FLOPPY:
No accessory will turn heads more than a large oversized floppy hat. Thanks to Kate Middletown, we’re seeing more people dress up with hats. But for summer, we love a large oversize floppy hat- – you can wear it to the beach or to a garden party or afternoon wedding. Confident stars such as Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Christie Brinkley love a large oversized hat. We love this look with a long flowy maxi dress or with a sexy bathing suit at the beach. Large floppy hats are easy to wear, it just takes confidence as heads will turn when you walk into the room.

PANAMA:
The panama is another classic hat silhouette that has a slightly larger brim than the fedora but is just as easy to wear. We love this style for running around town, gardening, bike riding or sitting outside and having a cup of coffee. This style hat is actually a great hat to wear for protecting your face from the sun. We are big advocates of skin cancer protection here at Hat Attack and so we have teamed up with the Skin Cancer Foundation to create a limited edition collection of panamas which are UV protected. Twenty percent of the sales from these hats will benefit skin cancer research.

STRAW COWBOY:
While the cowboy hat is a classic silhouette — this summer at Hat Attack we’ve created the look using a straw raffia material to give this style an easy, bohemian-chic vibe. This is the perfect hat to throw on at the beach. Rihanna was recently spotted in our straw raffia cowboy hat while surfing in Hawaii and we love how this hat transforms any simple bathing suit or beach look into a “wow” moment. Straw raffia cowboy hats go beyond the beach and also look great when paired with a flowy feminine all white dress. Wear your hair au natural and down or if you want to play the part, throw your hair in a braid to create the ultimate boho look.
