Glam Slam: I Saw ‘Sex And The City 2’ And…

…it’s fun and entertaining. I will leave the film critiquing to the pros, but the fashion… well, that is the real story for me and many a fashionista and let me say, it does not disappoint.

The first time we see Carrie she’s wearing the white $325 Halston Heritage dress we have all seen. (And the outfit we have all dissected from the Mykita & Bernhard Willhelm shades to the Chanel purse to the $3,000 Swarovski Crystal Embellished Christian Louboutin Pigalle pumps.) It’s a great way to start the film and the shoes even get their own much deserved close up!

You’ve probably seen the photos of the ladies in their ‘80s ensembles. There’s Carrie channeling Madonna, Charlotte as the ultimate prepster, Miranda in a power suit paired with sneakers and Samantha as a punky CBGB waitress. In the film, the shots are quick and part of a flashback montage, but got big laughs. I would have liked to have seen more of this!

There is a wedding scene in the film that had me in stitches. The wedding is ultra glamorous and stylized and looks like something out of a movie from the ‘40s. Carrie is part of the wedding party and wears a women’s tuxedo and shirt by Christian Dior, which looks chic. But then she accessorizes it with a custom-made black lace headpiece, which I thought was atrocious and very unflattering. Miranda goes sexy with a very, very very low cut Julien Macdonald gown. Samantha wears Naeem Khan and Charlotte does her go to designer Oscar de la Renta. (BTW- makeup artist Nicki Ledermann used MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Invisible Cover Foundation on Kristin Davis (shade #155) to get her flawless on-screen complexion in the film.)

Famed costume designer Patricia Field delivers what ‘SATC’ fans want. Lots of over the top fashion… especially when the ladies travel to the Middle East. I mean, who wears couture on a camel? Manolos in the desert and at the souk? Yeah, um right! Some of the outfits are so over the top and so unbelievable, it’s just plain ridiculous, but no one ever accused Patricia of being boring!

For me, the more tame outfits were the ones I liked best, perhaps because they are actually wearable! Sarah in a purple tiered Halston Heritage dress is something you can actually buy yourself online or at your local department store. A floaty silk orange Halston Heritage dress she wears in Abu Dhabi, I absolutely loved. (It’s $895 at www.bergdorfgoodman.com BTW) And when she goes shopping in the souk wearing a vintage J’adore Dior tee, it made me wish I had saved my own Dior tee from back in the day. (I would have never paired mine with a taffeta ball gown sized skirt though!)

Carrie has 41 wardrobe changes in the film, which seems like a lot. But with the movie running almost 2 1/2 hours, that only averages out to one outfit every four minutes, an eternity in the ‘SATC’ world! I couldn’t get enough of the fashion, but maybe that’s a good thing. Always leave ‘em wanting more.

You can see all the style for yourself when ‘Sex and The City 2’ opens May 27!
