Glam Slam: It’s In The Jeans

I’m thrilled to report that the Access Hollywood family has a new member!

Your Glam Slam Guru Ryan Patterson and her husband, Richard, welcomed a beautiful baby girl to the world on Friday.

Harlow Gray Patterson was born at 6:33am weighing in at 7 pounds 4 ounces.

Harlow is sure to give Suri Cruise a run in the style department, following in the footsteps of her fashionista Mama. One thing I know for sure: Ryan may be a first time Mom but you will never catch her in the dreaded “mom jeans”!

Jessica Simpson on the other hand, is a denim offender in that department. Jessica set off media mayhem when she performed last week and showed off her fuller figure.

The problem was not her new curves but her choice of attire — high-waisted jeans, a tight black tank and a huge leopard print belt that hugged her in all the wrong places. Frankly, that ensemble wouldn’t look good on anyone!

So are high-waisted jeans ever OK for girls who are not a size 0?

People StyleWatch’s Contributing Editor Lori Bergamotto says yes and shows us how to wear them.

“The high-waisted jeans trend is showing no sign of slowing down, however, there are really good tips to wear the right fit for your body,” Lori notes. “If you’re petite and a little curvy like Jessica Simpson, you want to go for a modified high-waisted jean. You don’t want a jean that comes up too high on your bust line.”

Choose a medium rise that hits right at the waist and make sure to go for a dark wash, which is slimming. And stay away from big chunky belts. Instead, opt for a skinny one. And, wear it at least four inches below the waistline.

Of course, high-waisted jeans aren’t the only option out there. Despite the name, don’t be afraid of skinny jeans! But, Lori stresses, “it’s important if you’re a little curvier to stick with dark wash… It really just slims everything, streamlines everything and it goes with everything.”

Choose skinny jeans that are low rise. To hide any figure flaws, pair them with a billowy top.

A go-to style for any body type? Bootcut jeans, which are universally flattering.

“They have perfect proportions — a little more room in the hip area, they pull in at the knee and then they flare out just enough to create a beautiful proportioned balanced shape,” Lori notes.

And who wouldn’t want that!
