Glam Slam: Johnny Depp: Style Icon

Johnny Depp just oozes cool. Always has. And last week he was named fashion icon of the year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America…sort of the Oscars of the fashion world.

I couldn’t agree more with the CFDA’s choice to include Johnny. But fashion icon of the year? To me, he should be getting a lifetime achievement award. Johnny’s famous for his own brand of dapper style.

I’ve been a fan ever since his ‘21 Jump Street’ days, when he rocked bandanas and leather jackets. He was the classic bad boy during his “Winona Forever” days. He cemented that bad boy status with his hotel-trashing episode, while he was dating Kate Moss. Talk about a good looking couple. I think the only couple that’s come close to being as beautiful as these two is Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

He went through a major hat phase during his ‘Benny and Joon’ days. And I love how he turned a pirate into a rock star with the flashy clothes, the gold teeth, the jewelry, and the hair for the ‘Pirates’ movies.

Oh yes, the hair. Johnny is blessed with great hair. From slicked back, to a retro style pompadour, to his Jack Sparrow dreads; he’s rocked them all.

He’s someone who just gets better with age. I love the scarves, the vests, the scuffed-up boots, the glasses and the jewelry he piles on—his signature look. He makes it all look so casually effortless, but somehow every detail is just so.

What I love most is that Johnny has always stayed true to his sometimes quirky, but always unique style. He joins the ranks of other honorees like Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker and even his ex, Kate Moss. The 2012 CFDA awards are June 4 in New York. I’m sure he’ll be there looking as handsome as ever.
