Glam Slam: Ladies Who Lunch

The whole concept of “ladies who lunch” sounds so fun to me. And foreign. These days, my Saturdays are decidedly less glamorous, as I now spend them rolling around on the floor at music class with my one-year-old. My days of leisurely lunches seem to be over. Or at least on a very long hiatus. Until, maybe when my daughter goes to college? Sigh.

Don’t get me wrong. I love spending every moment I can with my baby girl. But every now and then it feels good to get out of mommy mode to reconnect with old friends… and your old pre-baby self!

And that’s exactly what I did this weekend for a belated birthday celebration with the girls. I can’t remember the last time I had a three-hour brunch complete with pink champagne! We monopolized a table on the see-and-be-seen patio of West Hollywood restaurant Cecconi’s, where we devoured everything from scrambled eggs and smoked salmon to chocolate mousse. It was so delicious… and decadent!

My partners in crime? My adorable mommy friend Cara, who is a Los Angeles based beauty/fashion publicist. The gorgeous Sara, a bicoastal beauty/fashion PR maven. There was the hilarious Maurine, a PR machine for a national charity… Jessica, an amazing celebrity hairstylist… and my co-worker who set it all up… the wonderful Susan, a film/fashion producer at Access Hollywood.

With this Glam Slam gang, there was lots of talk about fashion and beauty. We asked Jessica how to create the perfect beachy waves. Sara revealed how she achieves the perfect eyeliner. Cara just had the Brazilian Blowout. Cara’s little boy Ellis is 11 days older than my daughter, so we always have lots to confab (and sometimes commiserate) about! She broke out her fancy gold metallic top for the lunch and said it’s always good to trade the mommy clothes to get dressed up and be fabulous every now and then. She is so right.

We checked out a stylish guy dining nearby, who looked David Beckham-ish. We laughed and laughed at a table of over-the-top wannabes… one girl was trying way too hard to be Nicole Richie… her friend was going for the just rolled outta bed Mary-Kate Olsen look. Or maybe it was Courtney Love… we’re not really sure. Either way, they were very entertaining.

And so was the lunch. Susan said her face hurt from laughing and smiling so much. So, we decided to make it a semi-regular thing. She joked that we are all officially initiated into the super exclusive Cecconi’s Supermodel Smart Funny Fabulous Girl’s Lunch Club!!!!!!
