Glam Slam: Live Snail Facial

Ah, what some folks will do in the quest for endless youth and beauty. Victoria Beckham is a fan of the bird poop facial. Demi Moore detoxifies with leeches. Now, get ready for the latest bizarre ritual crawling across the beauty world. It’s the snail facial. Yup! Snail slime is being coveted in some circles as a beauty-boosting cocktail of antioxidants that can rejuvenate and repair the skin.

Before, you get all hyped up and try and book this escargot treat; it’s only available in Japan (for now). According to the Daily Telegraph, the Tokyo based spa offers this one- hour treatment. After cleansing the skin, the live snails are placed on the cheeks and forehead and left for five minutes to slither around. Sounds relaxing, right?

And, if the snail facial doesn’t sound weird enough, these beautifying mollusks are also fed an organic diet of spinach, carrots and Swiss chard. The high quality diet ensures the snails are healthy!

The snail facial doesn’t come cheap. It costs $250.00. Are you still curious to try? Well, hate to step on your shell, but some dermatologist here in the States are already buzzing that the snail facial probably doesn’t have any lasting effects. Now, that’s surprising!
