Glam Slam: Makeup Monday – Mad For Metallics

As you know, the smoky eye has been big for several seasons now and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. It’s still THE makeup look for Fall but with a new twist. Instead of using dark grays and heavy blacks, it’s warmed up with metallic shades.

“This is pretty without being overwhelming.”

That’s Shane Paish, Dior’s Global Makeup Advisor, who confesses that he and Charlize Theron are obsessed with the metallic smoky eye look. For her NY “Battle In Seattle” premiere, Shane didn’t want Charlize’s makeup to compete with her dramatic red Dior dress, so he kept the look understated with neutrals adding just a bit of metallic on the eye.

“I started first with Dior AirFlash Spray Foundation–it gives this flawless, camera ready finish without being too matte. Then I dusted the skin with a bit of Shimmer Star Pressed Powder in Copper Diamond, particularly around the cheekbones and temples. It gives the skin a really subtle glow, not too much sparkle.”

“The eyes are the centerpiece of this look.” Shane used the 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Iridescent Leather, a collection of warm metallics in browns and golds.

“Start by covering the entire lid with the light champagne color. Use the darker taupe shade in the crease and towards the outer corner of the eye, then the rich chocolate shade along the top and bottom of the lash line. Finish by dabbing the center white shade in the inner corners to brighten the eyes.”

Shane then used black eyeliner around the inner lid and lots of black mascara. To complete the look he kept lips understated and creamy looking with Rouge Dior Western Beige.

FASHION FAREWELL

Today, we say goodbye to a legend in the style world. Mr. Blackwell, whose annual worst-dressed list skewered everyone from Madonna to Paris Hilton, has died. He was 86 years old.
