Glam Slam: Makeup Mondays — Bridal Beauty

Whether you’re about to walk down the aisle or just starting to plan your wedding, every bride-to-be dreams of looking absolutely beautiful on her big day.

All eyes are on the bride, which can create a lot of pressure, but a few simple steps can keep it from getting too stressful. Stila Celebrity Makeup Artist Sarah Lucero, who has worked with Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian, Debra Messing and Rosario Dawson, shares beauty tips to help every bride look and feel her best on her wedding day.

Complexion Perfection
You have to have flawless looking skin that will last all day. Many brides get married on location and you have to be sure your makeup will last and look beautiful no matter where you are, humid weather, or time of day… I always suggest brides get a great facial weeks before the big day to get their skin in shape. I look for facial treatments that encourage hydration and radiance to the skin texture, resulting in a natural glow. When your skin looks good you will need less foundation and concealer. You have to wear sunscreen on the day if you are having photos taken outside, you don’t want sunburn showing up on the honeymoon… The best foundation I have found that works in daylight and on camera/photos is the Stila One Step Makeup. I like this formula because it has primer, foundation, concealer, and a powder all built into one pump. Less is more and it always leaves the skin looking fresh and flawless. It works on every skin type and tone so it’s a great “go to” product and you can use it all year round. Apply a small amount with a foundation brush starting in the center of the face and blend your way out, you don’t have to put foundation everywhere – this is a mistake I see many brides make. When you apply too much, all you see is the makeup and not your beautiful glowing natural skin. Concealer should be applied as needed, to brighten under eyes and to eliminate redness around the nose and chin. I like to apply concealer after I’ve evened out the skin with foundation base. It’s all about layering and enhancing your natural beauty with complexion products.

Flushed Cheeks
I love the “English rose” feminine pink cheek on brides. It represents youth, glow, freshness and fun… try a stain on the cheeks. I know stains can be scary but these days there are formulas that are so sheer and easy to apply. Try Stila Cherry Crush Lip & Cheek Stain. It’s the most flattering shade on all skin tones and can be layered for more color. It glides on easily over foundation and can be worn alone or with a bronzing powder. I also feel the stains last longer and need very minimal touching up. Brides are busy and don’t need to worry about checking in on their makeup once the dancing and fun starts. A secret trick I like to do on clients is apply a small bit of cherry crush to the lips as a base color and apply lipstick or gloss on top. By doing this, you will keep the color on longer and it will truly last all day. Plus it offers the perfect pout and sexy lip look we all want!

Sultry Eyes
Your eyes have to be the stand out feature. I tend to stick to neutral brown, copper and beige tones; you can really do so much with these shades. You can create a beautiful structure around the lash line to make eyes appear bigger and brighter. Stick to matte shade for the base and crease and feel free to pop a bit of shimmer on the lids to add glow. I love Stila Kitten Eye Shadow; it’s the most universally flattering champagne beige with the softest sheen of pearl. It adds instant glamour to any look you are trying to achieve. I always suggest wearing waterproof mascara so it does not smudge in heat or come off if you tear up. You must curl lashes prior to applying mascara and I like to applying 3 coats to the top lashes and 3 coats to the lower lashes. Here’s a tip to make your eyes appear wider: apply the 3rd coat of mascara just in the center of the lashes on top and bottom and “pump” up the volume in that small section, your eyes will instantly look like you added a couple false flares in there…

You should line the inside of your eyes with a neutral tone or white eyeliner pencil. This will remove any redness and create a crisp bright eye that looks really polished. Look for creamy pencils or kohl pencil. I use Stila Kajal pencil in Topaz or Pearl all the time.

Instant Beauty Perks
Brows: right now the trend with brows is fuller and natural looking. You can find a brow polish or great brow pencil to enhance what you have and make the best version possible with what you have to work with. I love Anastasia Brow Ex-press in Brunette and Stila Brow Powder in medium. These work well on thin brows or full brows.

Perfect pout: lips have to last and look beautiful. Start with a great lip balm, my favorite is By Terry Rose Balm. Once lips are smooth apply a neutral lip pencil in a shade that mimics you natural lip color and apply a sheer gloss on top. This will last and look natural.

Just remember to try the makeup and hair look prior to the wedding day. You can change it up if needed. You always want to look like the best version of YOU! Have fun, and don’t forget to smile and enjoy every second of your special day. Leave the beauty prep to a pro….
