Glam Slam: Makeup Mondays — Get The Queen’s Look

Queen Latifah has the most beautiful skin, it always looks flawless. (No wonder the latest addition to her COVERGIRL Queen Collection is Natural Hue Concealer – who wouldn’t want to achieve a perfect complexion like hers, right?!)

Celebrity Makeup Artist, D’Andre Michael, who has also worked with Mary J. Blige, Natalie Cole and Lil’ Kim reveals how he created the Queen’s luminous look at the BET Awards.

“For Queen Latifah’s BET look, I decided to create a feathery smokey eye with nude lips and bronzed skin,” D’Andre says. “Queen’s main wardrobe changes were inspired by Halston. So I wanted a classy smoldering look for her makeup. And with several costume changes and three glam changes I wanted to create a look that was suitable for those choices.”

EYES
I used COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Compact Foundation in Golden Honey on her skin and set it with COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Minerals Pressed Powder in Brown Bronze.

On her eyes I first used MAC Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Soba over the entire eyelid, then I took MAC Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Smut and used it along the inner crease blending up into the brow bone and below the crease onto the lid to tone down the Soba color. Doing this allows you to blend your darker shadows into a softer color. Next, I used COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Onyx Smoke in the outer corners for a feathery look. Do this by blending inwards from the outer corners towards the center. To intensify the look I used COVERGIRL LiquiLine Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire along the top and bottom lashes and smudged the line with the smudger end for an intense and smoldering look. Lastly, for the eyelashes I used COVERGIRL LashBlast Fusion followed by COVERGIRL LashBlast Length Mascara in Very Black.

LIPS
For Queen’s lips, I wanted to offset her eyes by doing more of a nude lip for her intro performance so her eyes would stand out. For the first step, I used a base coat of Cinema Secrets Ultimate Lipstick in Sandy (found in lipstick kit #13) and then lined her lips with Kevyn Aucoin’s Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in Deep. (Rub lips together to blend your lip liner for a softer line.) Lastly, for luster and shine, I applied COVERGIRL ShineBlast Lipgloss in Gleam. (For her 2nd and 3rd looks I used COVERGIRL Outlast Lipstain in Scarlet Pucker and topped it with COVERGIRL ShineBlast Lipgloss in Glow)

SKIN
For Queen’s cheeks, I used MAC Cosmetics Blush in Sweet As Cocoa, just to add a hint of color and tone because she already has beautiful cheekbones, so the idea was to just accentuate her cheeks. To complete the look, I brushed COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer in Brown Bronze for a soft and subtle glow.
