Glam Slam: Makeup Mondays — Trends For 2012

I feel like I’ve been wearing the same makeup forever and am overdue for a change.

Emma Willis, Director of Artistry at Blushington Makeup & Beauty Lounge in West Hollywood, Calif., is here with inspiration to help freshen up both you and your makeup bag.

“The fabulous thing about 2012 is that there are a few beauty looks that will work well for everyone,” she says.

Here are three trends to try:

GO FOR ORANGE!
Orange lips will be gracing faces. Bold colors like orange can really make your lips pop—given the right shade. For olive skin gals like Jessica Alba, I suggest a great coral/orange colored gloss by Julie Hewett called Chloe. But remember to keep the eyes au natural—you want the lips to speak!!

For “my fair ladies,” like the stunning Taylor Swift, opt for a soft pinker orange color—something like Stila’s Apricot or Peach lip glaze will give you that hint of an orange hue.

For slightly darker skinned girls, like Zoe Saldana and Rosario Dawson, Stila’s Mango Crush lip & cheek stain would be perfect for you and the color will really set off your skin tone.

For the beautiful Jennifer Hudson type skin tones, try a dense, satin lipstick in burnt orange or bold strong orange, like Julie Hewett’s Belle Noir lipstick from her Noir Collection.

HOW TO:
Always conceal the lips to even out the skin tone on them before any bold color is added! This tactic will not only hold the color longer, but will also make it completely even all over the lips. Start by blending in a little concealer over the entire lip area (to completely match the face) then with a lip pencil IN THE SAME COLOR AS THE LIPSTICK / GLOSS you are about to apply, carefully line and also fill in the entire lip area with it. Finish with the desired lip stick/stain/gloss and you’re ready to rock!

CHEEKS THAT GLOW
Sun-kissed cheeks are another trend that we’ll see this spring and it doesn’t require a lot of time or effort. BECCA’s Beach Tints in either Grapefruit or Guava is great for the apples of the cheek and it will give that “pop” of coral/pink color that we all get from the first day in the blazing hot sunshine. Beach Tints are great because they are waterproof and can actually be used on the lips, cheeks and eyes as well!

If you have flawless skin like Emma Roberts, then Stila’s Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer will do the trick!

If you have more of an olive skin tone like Jennifer Lopez, you can bronze your skin with Stila’s Shade 2 (or Shade 1 if you have fairer skin).

HOW TO:
Start with BECCA’s fab Radiance Primer, which will prime the skin pre-makeup by diminishing the dullness and fatigue even with the smallest amount. Apply this all over the entire face to create a radiant base before foundation with your fingertips, sponge or foundation brush! Then blend in a little of Stila’s Bronzing Tinted Moisturizer over the cheeks and cheek bones and then right on the apples of the cheeks (find this when you smile, and it’s the part of the cheek that pops out!) dab a little of BECCA’s creme in Petal (which can also be used on the lips—we all love those products that double up!) and blend well to get that coral/pink glow to finish those cheeks off!

Be careful with the bronzer though; blending and buffing is the key—we don’t want any streaks now do we! The sun highlighter is amazing and it will bring the cheek bones to life—very illuminating—sun in a compact!

BOLD BROWS
Strong brows are one of the hottest trends that celebs like Jennifer Connelly, Anne Hathaway and Camilla Belle rock on a day-to-day basis!

HOW TO:
Brush up your unruly brows and trim the hairs that go over the natural shape of your eyebrows with small scissors. Then tweeze underneath on the brow bone, taking away any fine, small hairs to clean up the area, making your eyes more open! For sparse areas, take an angled brush and using a matte brown or auburn brow shadow, depending on your coloring, “fleck in” tiny, thin lines (think like you’re creating fine hairs!) to even out and shape the brow……..sometimes only the tiniest amount is needed and can make ALL the difference!!
