Glam Slam: Makeup Mondays — Vamp It Up!

Score one for Team Edward… Vampires are hot for Halloween! No surprise there. Thanks to the massive popularity of ‘Twilight’, ‘Vampire Diaries’ and ‘True Blood’, vampires are more popular than ever and are an easy (and sexy!) costume choice.

“I’m asked at least two or three times a day how to create the look,” says Nina Darguzis, Celebrity Makeup Artist for LA’s famed professional makeup store, Cinema Secrets. “This new incarnation of vampires aren’t as complex as precursors like ‘The Lost Boys’, ‘Buffy’, or ‘Angel’. They’re almost casually sexy. They almost seem less demon and more fantasy.”

Here are Nina’s tips for how to vamp it up… ‘Twilight’-style.

FACE/CHEEKS
Begin by prepping the skin with a moisturizer like Dermalogica’s Active Moist ($36.99). Let it sit for five minutes then use Cinema Secrets Hollywood Lights luminescent mineral powder in Opal ($7.99), which is a luminescent pale powder that gives a soft “unearthly” ivory cast to the skin. When the light hits it, the opal coloring makes it look like it glows a pinky-purple hue. Dust over your entire face and neck. This will not only pale you down but when the light hits you, you’ll sparkle.

EYES
To achieve a supernatural look, dust a bit of red blush like Ben Nye’s Flame Red ($9.00) beneath your lower lash line then apply a few coats of black volumizing mascara like Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara ($5.99) for luxurious lashes with intense volume. For female vampires, I suggest a smoky eye using a sparkled black like Cinema Secrets Hollywood Lights mineral powder in Black Diamond.

LIPS
To give a little color without going overboard sweep on a soft layer of lip tint, like Benefit’s Benetint ($28.00) to stain the lips for no fuss color.

NINA SIDE NOTE
You can add a pair of amber cosmetic contact lenses (which should be applied before the makeup) but I do suggest finding these through an eye doctor. Proper care and training should be used whenever dealing with your eyes. You can’t get vision back once you’ve lost it. Also, you could add a pair of fangs like Scarecrow Fangs ($19.99), however ‘Twilight’ vampires don’t actually sport fangs.
