Glam Slam: My Daughter & Diane von Furstenberg

My 3-year-old met her first fashion designer this weekend — LOL! I was invited to bring her to a party for the “world premiere” of the new Diane von Furstenberg collection for GapKids and babyGap. I was excited to preview the clothes before they hit stores March 15!

We arrived at the ginormous two-story Gap at the Grove in Los Angeles, where the store was closed down for the event. I saw Diane outside talking to some press and realized this party was a very big deal! Maybe we should have dressed up a little more!

Busy Philipps (pictured) was there with her daughter, Birdie, Alyson Hannigan brought daughter Satyana, and the very tall, very beautiful Milla Jovovich was there fresh off her stylish Oscar appearance last weekend. Molly Sims, Jessica Capshaw and Tiffani Thiessen were also there.

Inside there were several tables set up where the kids could color, draw with stencils and make various art projects. There was also balloon art and a mini runway where the kids could strut their stuff. And they also had little petting areas inside and outside the store with cute dogs for the kids to play with.

Kid-friendly foods like mini sliders, mac and cheese and sweet potato fries were served along with fruity drinks in kid-friendly cups featuring the same DVF logo that’s featured on several pieces in the collection.

And then there were the clothes, of course! Everything is so cute and hip and stylish. The baby clothes were beyond adorable and I wished that I knew someone with a little girl because it was hard to pass up. Everything always looks extra cute when it’s doll-sized, right?

The clothes—everything from dresses, leggings, T-shirts, hats and shoes, feature prints and bright colors—right up my daughter’s alley!

“Aren’t they cute?” Diane asked me and my daughter, referring to the clothes. I told her how much my daughter loves orange and how it’s hard to find, so I was glad to see she used the color.

I probably embarrassed myself gushing a little too much to the iconic designer, but she was so nice and really made the rounds trying to mingle with all the people in the store. She talked to us a couple of times throughout the event, even complimenting my daughter on her bright orange sunglasses. My daughter asked who she was, and since she has no idea what a “fashion designer” is…I tried to explain that she’s the lady who made the clothes.

My daughter also doesn’t know anything about labels, but she loved the high top sneakers with the DVF logo. We bought a bright dress, shorts and bathing suit, all in the same floral pattern because it features a lot of orange. I also bought a mini version of Diane’s classic wrap dress in orange and white. Then there’s the cute bee tee and black and white leggings and black canvas sandals with ankle straps that I would have never guessed she would like, but she insisted we buy them and she never does that.

I admit, I went a little crazy buying clothes, but I figured it was better to buy it while it’s there and then, if something doesn’t work, I can return it later. But the way my daughter is digging the clothes, I don’t think that’s gonna happen.
