Glam Slam: Pop-Up Style!

How’s this for a cool idea? Instead of a pop-up store or boutique, how about a pop-up retail cart?

You know, those carts you see at your local mall.

Only these aren’t selling trinkets like phone cases or knock-off shades. They’re called “Pop Carts” and these upgraded carts feature stylish, upscale merchandise from Los Angeles designers.

I went to a preview of the new carts, which just launched as part of the 10-year anniversary celebration of The Grove, the popular entertainment and retail destination in Los Angeles.

Each cart features one brand. There’s ban.do, an accessories line, with lots of sparkly hair accessories that are perfect for the holidays. Clare Vivier is a local bag and tote designer known for her popular leather clutches. And Heidi Merrick is a fashion and home accessories brand and there are pillows, scarves and pajamas up for grabs.

But what I loved most about this cart were the hand-made dolls! My daughter thought the dolls (pictured) were fabulous (and so did her mommy!) and each features a fashionable look from the designer’s Fall collection.

The carts offer some good and unique options for shoppers and amazing exposure for local designers. (The Grove attracts more than 18 million visitors a year). Like any pop-up, the carts are for a limited time…they will be at The Grove through Valentine’s Day.
