Glam Slam: Risque Rihanna Rules The CFDA Red Carpet!

“You know, Island girls are sassy and we love blingy, outrageous stuff!” Mission accomplished for Rihanna, who stunned in an extremely risqué sheer custom gown by Adam Selman at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards on Monday night in New York.

“My t*ts bother you?” she laughingly asked our producer on the red carpet. “They’re covered. It’s Swarovski crystals, girl. But yeah, you know it’s the fashion awards for American designers, they’re honored tonight and I wanted to wear an American designer… he’s somebody that I’ve been working with for a while on custom designs and we worked on this piece together. He’s amazing and I’m really glad that he could have this opportunity, this platform.”

Rihanna, who was honored with the Fashion Icon Award, completed her custom dress with headscarf, gloves and bling.

“The jewelry is by Paul Morelli and Jacob. 230,000 crystals. We had 15 people working on this all week. Six days it took them to make this complete and they just made the do-rag for me last night,” she added.

Hey, it all works for her.

Another envelope pusher, Lupita N’yongo, was also the talk of the red carpet. The jury’s still out on Lupita’s Suno culottes ensemble though!

“I’ve worn a lot of clothing by a lot of designers and it’s nice to be here where all of it converges, you know and celebrate that,” Lupita told us. “I’m just really happy to be here. I think the whole event is a really cool one and it’s nice to know that awards exist for the designers that help us look good when we’re winning awards.”

Blake Lively was her usual glam self in a short, sequined Michael Kors from the Resort 2015 Collection.

“This stuff is always terrifying,” Blake said of the red carpet. “I mean people taking your picture and screaming at you. It’s a little bit of sensory overload. It’s a good problem to have but you always feel intimidated and nervous.”

She didn’t show any nerves, as she did press with her dress designer, Michael Kors.

The Michael Kors — I’m wearing him on my arm and on my breasts,” she laughed.

Michael gave us the lowdown on her fun and flirty dress. “We wanted something that kind of felt perfect for a gorgeous summer night. A little 60’s glamour, a little Catherine Deneuve, but still very American and sexy and fresh.”

Also looking sexy and fresh — Naomi Campbell and Solange Knowles, both wearing metallics. Solange added a pop of color to her long, pewter Calvin Klein gown with a bright pink lip. No elevator brawl this time though!

And I thought this was pretty cool. Olivia Wilde went with a vintage black dress with some major star pedigree.

“This was Anjelica Huston’s dress,” she told us. “In 1974 she wore it to Cannes with Jack Nicholson, so I thought it was a fun vintage thing to pair with my Weitzman heels.”
