Glam Slam: Secrets to Nicola Peltz’s Awesome Hair

Nicola Peltz traveled all over the world for the global media tour promoting “Transformers: Age of Extinction” and wowed the crowds at every stop. One reason? She took her mane man, Celebrity Stylist Adir Abegel with her, who created 13 different looks.

Here are four of my fave looks…with Adir’s how to and secret tip for nailing each look.

STYLE: The new summer crown knot. This is not the typical top knot placed right at the top of the head but rather an “undone deconstructed crown knot”.

SECRET TIP: Back-comb the crown area with a fine tooth comb to give the top more height. The trick to back combing is to take a small section of hair in your hand. Hold the hair straight upward, and pull it taut. Place the comb about halfway between your hair’s roots and your hand, and apply firm brush strokes downward toward the scalp.

HOW TO:
Use a volumizer throughout the hair because this is how this style will stay anchored by creating some grip and texture to the hair.

Blow dry the hair upside-down to create volume at the roots. Your hair should be 100% dry when you’re done with this step.

Back comb the roots a bit with a comb. Your texture will feel a bit rough and undone. That’s perfect.

Use a soft hair elastic to secure hair in a very loose ponytail right at the crown. This placement is important because it will give the illusion that you are taller and will elongate the neck. Make sure to leave some height at the front of your hair, you don’t want the ponytail too tight.

Very loosely wrap your hair in a bun making sure it looks deconstructed and undone. Leave some of the ends out and secure with bobby pins the same color as your hair. The bun should not feel too tall.

Finish this look by having a few wispy hairs frame your face, spray some glossing shine and you’re done.

STYLE: A modern 1970’s inspired glam blow-out

SECRET TIP: Use Velcro rollers at the crown to set the blow-dry and give it that 70’s flair. To give you the most amount of volume, make sure the hair is cooled down before you remove the rollers. Use the largest barrel curling iron on the rest of the hair to create a wave not a curl.

HOW TO:
I first started out by applying a thermal protectant from roots to ends to help cut down my blow dry time and protect the hair. I followed that by layering the roots with a volumizer for maximum volume.

I proceeded by rough drying the hair until it was 80% dry, before using a round brush to smooth out the hair and give it the bounce and shine I was looking for.

I took the top section of the hair and used a round brush to smooth it out and then used a Velcro roller to set the blowout throughout the top of the hair.

Once the Velcro roller was in place, I took the rest of the hair that was down and sprayed it with a finishing spray to lock in the wave.

I proceeded to wave all the hair that was down with a large 1 1/4″ iron, making sure it was a loose wave rather than a curl. I then took the top section out of the Velcro rollers and sprayed the finishing spray on the top section and parted the hair in the middle and repeated the same waving technique to create a slight wave to frame the face.

The last secret to this style is creating a height at the crown to create balance and modernity and to give it a little 70’s glam.

Lock your style all night with maximum hold hair spray.

STYLE: A deconstructed faux bob

SECRET TIP:
Leave all your front layers down, so they fall into a bob length. Pull the rest of the hair into a low slung ponytail that is about 4 inches away from the nape of the neck.

HOW TO:
Spray volumizer on roots from mid shaft to ends

Create a strong middle part.

Separate the hair into four sections and braid each section.

Dry the hair completely so it’s 100 percent dry in the braid

Once completely dry, take out the braids.

Use a large barrel curling iron around the front of the hair to define the waves that frame the face in front.

Use a texturizing spray all around the hair to create a beautiful undone finish to hair. Back comb the crown for a little bit of height. Pull the hair into a low slung ponytail.

Let all of your shortest layers fall down almost like a bob, and the long layers are secured into that very low slung ponytail

Make sure to use a clear elastic to create a seamless finish.

STYLE: The Humidity Proof Sleek Blow-Out

SECRET TIP:
Creating a deep side part, following the highest point in the arch of your brow to position the part. Also, it was full on humidity in Hong Kong that night. To start this style, use a hyper moisturizing conditioner to set the foundation for a blow dry that will last and help keep hair smooth even in the most humid environments.

HOW TO:
Condition hair with a masque to create a base to combat the frizz.

While the hair is still damp, seal the ends with hair oil and then apply styling mousse from the roots to mid-length for body.

Part the hair in a deep side part and blow dry smooth with an Ibiza round brush. Follow this by wrapping each section in Velcro rollers to create a soft shape.

Allow the rollers to set and spray hairspray all around the head to lock in shape and add sheen.

Remove the rollers and create soft smooth waves by brushing them out with a paddle brush.

Tuck one side behind her ear and allow the other side to flow loosely back.
