Glam Slam: ‘Sex And The City 2’ Week — ‘Sex’ Style Secrets!

“Sex and The City 2” opens today and in honor of that, today’s Glam Slam is all about the style secrets you should look for when you see the film.

Once again there is a companion book to the film. “Sex and The City 2: The Stories. The Fashion. The Adventure” which does all the style detective homework for us! It breaks down every single outfit Carrie and the ladies wear and also reveals other tidbits about shooting the film.

“There’s a huge, huge, huge, huge, huge section on what Carrie wore,” Sarah Jessica tells us. “And included in that is what I didn’t wear, fitting photos, what didn’t make it into the movie, costumes that we love that we couldn’t find a rational reason for using.”

Oh yes, the fashion. There are 125 costume changes and $10 million in couture clothing and jewelry! In fact, there was so much wardrobe in a space so huge that costume designer Patricia Field compared it to a gymnasium. There was a room for just shoes. A room with shelves and shelves of bags. TWO rooms for jewelry…one for fine and one for costume jewelry. Ahhh…I would have died and gone to fashion heaven in that “gymnasium!”

While filming the opening scene, when the girls meet up at Bergdorf’s, there were a thousand people watching them shoot. The much photographed and analyzed white Halston dress Carrie wears was one of two considered…now it’s hard to think of her in anything else!

For the ‘80s flashback scenes, period cars and hundreds of extras dressed in clothes from the era were brought in to make things look authentic. The pink Madonna-style taffeta bow Parker wears in the ‘80s scenes, she tied herself. She also customized a vintage sweatshirt she wears by cutting the neck off of it herself. (She says she thinks she may have cut it too low!) Since it’s a flashback scene, SJP thought she should put her mole back!

You would think that an eclectic dresser like Carrie would be way into animal prints right? However, we learn that a pair of Charlotte Olympia leopard print pumps she wears in the movie were a Carrie first!

In a scene where Carrie attends a movie premiere, she’s wearing a killer necklace… which is actually Balmain belt!

When Sarah Jessica showed up on set one day in her own cropped light blue “Closed” jeans, Patricia Field saw them and scrapped the outfit originally planned for the scene. Patricia got a plaid shirt from her store, tied it around SJP’s midriff and they were ready to shoot in ten minutes.

Manolo Blahnik designed several pairs of shoes just for the film. Sarah Jessica also wears shoes by Brian Atwood, Giuseppe Zanotti, Pierre Hardy and says she climbed a sand dune in YSL platforms “over and over and over…” The much photographed and written about $3000 Swarovski crystal Christian Louboutin shoes Carrie wears are thrashed! Sarah Jessica says she “danced in the shoes for days. Beat them up!”

The wardrobe is a who’s who….all the big designers are well represented, Balmain, Chanel, Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren, Hermes, Stella McCartney, Lanvin, Jimmy Choo and Dolce & Gabbana. There is vintage too, of course, and a few lower priced items like the Halston pieces and some pieces from affordable chain Zara.

How is this for a dilemma? For one scene, SJP liked two pairs of earrings and couldn’t decide which pair to wear…so she wore one of each!

Who wouldn’t love to have a fashion problem…and solution like that?
