Glam Slam: The Friday Five – Flatter Tummy Tricks

“I’m not pregnant!” Katie Holmes addresses pregnancy rumors in the August issue of InStyle after this recent photo of her incited tabloid speculation. “I had bad posture. And I was having a fat day.”

Honey, we’ve all been there!

If your stomach isn’t quite as toned as you’d like, check out these five ways to a flatter tummy from InStyle:

Go High-Waisted
Whether you wear pants or a skirt, a high waist downplays ab flab, says stylist Rob Zangardi. “The higher cut draws eyes to your true waist,” he says, which for many is the narrowest part of the torso.

Layer Your Tanks
The problem with shapewear tops? They’re tight, so they actually call attention to your tummy. Wear a Lycra workhorse under a loose cotton T to compress flab, or go for a two-in-one version.

Work on Your Back Muscles
A strong back is critical to good posture, which in turn sucks in stomach pooch. For instant slimming, “imagine your spine as an elevator going up,” and lift your rib cage up and away from your hips, says trainer Ellen Barrett.

Make Thyme for Your Body
Clarin’s new extra-firming body lotion uses botanical extracts like thyme to boost the production of elastin fibers, which can help smooth skin around your abs after, say, childbirth.

Avoid the Three C’s
To prevent stomach bloating, nutritionist Lauren Slayton suggests steering clear of the “three C’s” – canned, carbs, carbonated.” Healthy natural deflators include asparagus, protein, dandelion tea, parsley, and apple cider vinegar.
