Glam Slam: The Friday Five — October Rocks!

October is National Pizza Month, National Dessert Month AND it’s the annual beer celebration, Oktoberfest! What’s not to love?

Here are five other things I’m loving this month.

1. CHEAP CHIC STYLE
Lauren Conrad debuts her affordable new line for Kohl’s this month. I felt like I was in an episode of “The Hills” last night when Lo Bosworth and Whitney Port helped LC celebrate her LC Lauren Conrad collection at a glam party on Melrose Place. Lauren looked chic in a $40 ballet top from her line, which she wore as a short, short dress! She paired it with a black Chanel bag and the fiercest Givenchy shoes ever- I was obsessed with them! She told me her fans give inspiration and input on what they want style wise. She says they aren’t afraid of color and are dressing more ladylike. She said that impresses her since she herself wore a tracksuit through most of high school! For more info on her line go to www.kohls.com.

2. SHOP FOR THE CAUSE
October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there are dozens of ways to raise money so you can shop and not feel guilty about it!

Michael Kors created this year’s “Key to the Cure” Tee for Saks Fifth Avenue. www.saks.com. Ippolita jewelry created pieces for its Rose Gold Collection (prices start at $195) specifically for BCA and they are participating in Saks Key To The Cure Event, October 15th-18th. The company will also donate a percentage of website sales to breast cancer charities this weekend. Go to www.ippolita.com for more information. Meanwhile, Oakley joins the fight for a cure by donating $20 to the Young Survival Coalition from the sale of every pair of special edition YSC breast cancer awareness sunglasses. www.youngsurvival.org

3. YOU GLOW GIRL!
You’ve heard people describe moms-to-be as having “that glow.” Well, Jennifer Lopez hopes to capture and bottle that radiance with her 14th (yes 14th!) perfume, called “My Glow.” She developed the fragrance, a mixture of lavender flower, peony and sandalwood, while pregnant with her twins Max and Emme. The lovely Jeneine in our New York office tried out the scent and says you can tell Jennifer was in a maternal state of mind because the fragrance is softer than her others. Available at department stores nationwide.

4. WILD THING
The children’s classic “Where the Wild Things Are” is brought to life on the big screen on October 16th. Gotta say, it looks pretty amazing. Also hitting theaters in October, “Amelia” starring Hilary Swank at the famed pilot (Oct. 23) and the Michael Jackson concert film, “This Is It” (Oct. 28).

5. HIP HALLOWEEN
It’s all about Team Edward this Halloween. Thanks to “Twilight” and “The Vampire Diaries” bloodsuckers will be a big costume trend this year. Retailers also say that Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett will be popular costume choices. My pick? How about Jon and Kate? So easy to do, just overload on Ed Hardy garb and buy a choppy wig and voila- you are good to go! At any rate, it’s a good excuse to dress up and eat chocolate!
