Glam Slam: Trends I’m Trying

We’re finally getting a little bit of cool weather here in So Cal, so I’m getting to wear the sweaters and jackets that have been collecting dust in my closet! I know, late to the party! There are so many fun trends to try out and here’s what is on my radar right now.

LEATHER
I’m taking a cue from Jessica Biel (pictured) for this trend and going for the black leather pants look. Because many brands are doing faux leather, you don’t have to spend a fortune to get the same look. I got a great looking pair of faux leather black skinny pants at Zara for $89. Because I don’t love my hips, I will pair them with a long top, sweater or jacket. I love dressing them down and they look great tucked into boots. Leather tops are another option- H & M and Piperlime have affordable ones and for those who want to go all out- a leather dress is the way to go!

BROCADE
I like this trend better in small doses and so I haven’t gone too crazy adding brocade to my wardrobe. I did, however, buy a long black and metallic gold brocade cardigan from River Island, which I love and that’s just enough of the trend for me. I am pairing it with skinny jeans or those faux leather leggings I bought. Accessories are an easy way to incorporate brocade, whether it be a print scarf, purse or shoes.

MOTORCYCLE
Everyone from Forever 21 to Topshop is doing a version of the moto jacket in all types of fabrics and in all price ranges. If you’re worried about looking like a Hell’s Angel in a leather version go for a plaid or tweed version, which can be dressed up or down. I love a tweed version with a pencil skirt!

LEOPARD PRINT
Yes please! This is a trend I never get tired of and because I’ve acquired so much leopard over the years, I didn’t have to buy much to get in on this trend. I did, however, buy cute calf-hair leopard print flats at Madewell and a very expensive looking leopard sweater at Forever 21 that costs all of 15 bucks! Yay — score!

MILITARY/CAMOUFLAGE
Luckily, this trend is still in and I have plenty of stuff to cover the bases with what I bought last year. I’ve seen cute camo print jeans, but if you don’t want to draw attention to your backside and hips, you should probably avoid because even camo can’t make a big butt disappear! Instead, you can’t go wrong with a trusty camo jacket or stores like the Gap have camo print flats and bags. (I bought a calf hair camo print bag with neon straps that I really like.)
