Glam Slam: Try These 3 NYFW Makeup Trends

NY Fashion Week wrapped up last week showcasing styles we will all see in stores next spring. Makeup though, is something we can play with now!

Celebrity makeup artist Kristofer Buckle, who has worked with Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow and Khloe Kardashian, and is the founder of Kristofer Buckle Beauty at Costco, breaks down three of the week’s big beauty trends…

NO MAKEUP MAKEUP

The No Makeup Makeup look was huge this season and could be seen at Marc Jacobs, BCBG Max Azria, Victoria Beckham and Alexander Wang. Marc Jacobs took the no makeup look literally (see model Kendall Jenner, pictured), but for us non-models, using minimal natural shades only where needed is the way to go. Use a sheer concealer only where needed and skip the full face of foundation. Try sheer tints of natural lip color and skip the gloss! Shades of pink on the cheeks should match the pink on your ears and hands for the most natural look. And lastly, try a more subtle brown mascara instead of black. This look also pairs nicely with another trend that’s sticking around – thicker brows.

BOLD LINER

Peter Som, Nanette Lepore (pictured) and Honor showed perfect examples of bold liner at NYFW. Experiment with anything from deep blues, white, bronze to good ol’ black cream winged liner on upper lids, as dramatic as your comfortable with. Choose a long-wearing gel liner in that makes it easy to get a sharp dramatic line. A lot of women have trouble doing winged liner. But if you take a business card, credit card, or matchbook, you can hold it flat against the outer corner of your eye and use a black shadow to create the wing you want. Pair the strong liner with clean skin and a no lipstick look to make this new.

EMBELLISHMENTS

This look is all about having fun! At Tommy Hilfiger we saw star tattoos; Monique Lhuillier created a dreamy look with cellophane flakes; and A Detacher (pictured) got in on the trend with star freckles. Try stenciled stars on cheeks if you’re brave! Otherwise, glitter or stones used sparingly around the eyes or brows is also fun for your next big event. Explore the craft store and use your imagination!
