Glam Slam: VMA Style

Zzzzzzzzzzzz. That’s me snoring over the fashion at the VMAs last night.

Sure, Lady Gaga wore several outrageous outfits including her “meat” ensemble, which is getting a lot of press. She arrived in a dramatic Alexander McQueen complete with Mohawk headpiece and those crazy armadillo shoes. Among her several wardrobe changes was a Giorgio Armani custom made black bustier gown with long, full leather skirt.

All were very Gaga, but I’ve become so accustomed to her constant over-the top attempts to shock us, that I don’t find her so shocking anymore, it’s all just par for the Gaga course.

Of course, an award show like the VMAs is all about shock value. The style isn’t glamorous like the Oscars or Golden Globes. Crazy outfits, the wilder the better, are what make headlines. This is about making a bold statement…good or bad.

Which works for a celeb like Ke$ha, who went with her typical trashtastic look, literally. Her black plastic dress did indeed look like a trash bag and her look was complete with fake long braid and her signature wacky makeup. Boring! Snooki de-poofed her signature ‘do, but not to worry, her one shouldered paisley print mini was still completely Jerseylicious.

I love Katy Perry and her cheeky style, but she wore one of the worst dresses of the night…black sequins on top with white ruffled skirt by Marchesa. Twilight’s Ashley Greene also went the black and white route, but she looked adorable in her Giambattista Valli mini dress with black lace on top and white skirt.

Sofia Vegara smoldered in a short sparkly black Dolce and Gabbana paired with Prada shoes. Selena Gomez actually matched MTV’s Moon Man statues in her silver strapless gown by Reem Acra. Audrina Patridge sparkled in a sequined silver mini with a lotta, lotta bling.

“My stylist said be careful, you’re wearing a little over 2 million dollars!” she told us.

Taylor Swift looked far older than her 20 years with her Old Hollywood Glamour look of retro waves and dark lipstick. I liked her D & G cream strapless dress though. “Glee’s” Jane Lynch wore a track suit inspired pant suit that Sue Sylvester would love.

One of my favorite moments of the entire night was Cher. Not that I am a fan of the revealing fishnet bodysuit she wore, which is very similar to the then risqué number she sported in her 1989 video for “If I Could Turn Back Time.” I just love that she’s 64 and owned the look. Cher rocks.
