A big Happy Birthday to country icon Dolly Parton who turns 66 today! I got to meet Dolly, who is one of my big-time idols, the other day. I’ve been a fan of hers ever since, well, ever since I can remember. Elementary school maybe?
Dolly came to promote her new movie “Joyful Noise” on our show Access Hollywood Live and let me tell you- she is the ultimate professional. While many stars aren’t exactly known for their punctuality, Dolly was not only on time…she was early and raring to go. She was the first person out on the set!
“I just like to have a good time. I don’t like being stuffy,” she told us. And she’s not. She was cheerful, happy and gracious. If she ever has a bad day, I’m sure she probably doesn’t let on.
“When they say action, I do my job,” she said. “When they say cut (pronounced with a big Dolly twang) I just like to have fun!”
After her interview, everyone wanted to meet her and we took a few group photos with her. She knows how to strike a flattering pose! She’s even tinier than I imagined and I felt a little ginormous next to her, to be honest! (Except for one area, obviously!)
I told her I was so excited to meet her and she gave me a little hug. She immediately put us all at ease. Sometimes when you meet one of your idols, you are disappointed, but it wasn’t that way at all with Dolly.
“That’s why I came, to make everybody smile,” she said and that’s exactly what she did.
